According to Obasanjo, should the African countries not address the issue of unemployment, there might be an outburst of violence. Obasanjo made this known when he played host to the newly appointed president of ECOWAS Commission, Marcel Alain de Souza, who led a four-man delegation to his residence in Abeokuta, the Ogun state capital. He said: “On the issue of unemployment, particularly youth unemployment, I have maintained that all of us in West Africa, in our different countries and indeed in Africa, we are sitting on a keg of gun powder for as long as we do not pay adequate attention to youth unemployment. “A situation where more than 50% of our youths are unemployed is extremely dangerous. We now have a situation in part of West Africa where people now are dying of starvation. “Is it that we are not producing enough food or if we are producing what we produced evenly, whatever it is it is shameful, it has led us to be begging international community for supply of food to any part of West Africa, it is not right‎?” According to Obasanjo, who is currently a special envoy of ECOWAS to Guinea-Bissau, the expectations from the sub-regional body when it was established 41 years ago were yet to be met

Ryan Giggs leaves Man U after 29 years, releases statement explaining why

Manchester United legend Ryan Giggs left his role as assistant Man U coach on Saturday after spending 29 years at the club- first as a player since the age of 14, then the last three years as an assistant coach under David Moyes and then Louis Van Gaal.

The Welshman, 42, has played more times for the club than anyone else in history and is the club's most decorated player, having won every major honour in club football. After Jose Mourinho's appointment as coach, he felt it was the right time to leave. Read Ryan Giggs' statement explaining why he left the club after the cut....

"After 29 seasons at Manchester United as a player and assistant manager, I know winning is in the DNA of this club - giving youth a chance, and playing attacking and exciting football. It’s healthy to have high expectations, it’s right to expect to win. Manchester United expects, deserves, nothing less.

"This is why it is a huge decision for me to step away from the club that has been my life since the age of 14. It has not been a decision that I have made lightly. I'll take away so many special memories as well as a lifetime of experiences that will, I hope, serve me well in the future.

"However, the time feels right and, although I have no immediate plans to step into management, it is where I want to be.

"I’ve been extremely fortunate in having two great managerial mentors; first in Sir Alex, who I’ve spent the majority of my life working with and learning from and who I believe will remain as football’s greatest-ever manager and in more recent times, Louis van Gaal, whose CV speaks for itself. The knowledge I have gleaned from them has been invaluable.

"I want to reiterate my thanks to the backroom staff and support teams at Manchester United I’ve worked with over the years. The results on the pitch are a reflection of the hard work off it. I would not have achieved the success I have without the dedication, sacrifice and commitment of these people in creating the best environment for the team to succeed.

"I want to congratulate José Mourinho on his appointment as manager of the world’s biggest club. There are only a handful of proven winners at the very highest level and José is unquestionably one of them. I know the fans will welcome him.

"My final thank you is to the fans. I cannot begin to tell you how much I will miss walking out at Old Trafford in front of you. It’s extremely difficult to say goodbye after 29 years. I have loved every minute both as a player and assistant manager. The support you have always shown me has been phenomenal; thank you.

"It’s time for a new chapter and a new challenge. I’m excited about the future - I’ve had the best apprenticeship into management anyone could ever ask for."

Manchester United Executive vice-chairman, Ed Woodward said: "Ryan’s place in the history of Manchester United is assured. He has been a constant presence at the club since 1987 and, during his playing days, regularly delighted crowds; first with his dazzling wing play and later with his intelligence and ability to dictate a game.

"He has tackled his coaching and management responsibilities with similar rigour and diligence. The experiences and discipline he developed at United will undoubtedly be a big help as he continues to learn his trade. He has all the attributes to be a terrific manager in the future. Everyone at the club wishes him well in his new career. He will be missed but will always be welcome at Manchester United.

'Buhari, Osinbajo, Saraki, Governors can be arrested while in office' - Femi Falana

Femi Falana says a sitting president or governor who commits any crime can be arrested and tried, saying according to the Supreme Court ruling, there was no longer absolute immunity. The Senior Advocate of Nigeria said immunity does not extend to electoral fraud and asked Senate President, Bukola Saraki and his Deputy, Ike Ekweremadu to face the forgery charges against them rather than politicking about it, saying “they have no immunity to dodge the charges against them.’’.

He said this while speaking on: “Limit of executive immunity” in Benin to mark the 60th birthday of the Secretary to the State Government (SSG) of Edo, Prof. Julius Ihonvbere
"The senate is now politicising the issue, saying it is political victimization but not that the offence was not committed. As leaders of the National Assembly, you are supposed to be above board and that is even the more reason you must be careful.
“But I want to remind the senate that the Attorney General of the Federation is only answerable to his boss, who is the president and nobody else.
“The same thing applies to the states, so there is no longer absolute immunity in this country.
“And that is why what is happening in Ekiti today about money found in a bank and the governor is saying it is illegal to freeze his account that is not true.

“Any issue that is criminal in nature must be treated as such,” he declared.

Photos: Dhaka terrorists identified, all allegedly from affluent families and went to good schools

Six armed men stormed into the Holey Artisan Bakery situated in a diplomatic area of Dhaka and killed  20 people, all foreigners. The gunmen were also killed at the end of the 11-hour siege and one was captured alive. Around 30 people were injured and 13 of the hostages rescued.

According to SITE Intel Group, the Islamic State has released names and pictures of the terrorists. All the attackers were students of Dhaka's North South University. According to reports, they were in their early 20s and also seem to be from affluent families and went to good schools.

Terrorism monitoring group Terror Monitor also published the men's photos and identified the attackers as Abu Omar, Abu Salmah, Abu Rahim, Abu Muslim and Abu Muharib al-Bengali.

On the other hand, Bangladesh Home Minister HM Asaduzamman told the media that the terrorists involved in the attack were members of a local group called Jama'atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB). He also added that these local terrorists tried to contact ISIS.

Meanwhile, a survivor of the massacre recounted on Sunday, July 3 how he spent the night being literally sick with fear as he listened to the haunting screams of diners being hacked to death.

The employee at the Holey Artisan Bakery, a Western-style cafe in Dhaka's upmarket Gulshan neighbourhood, said his life was spared by the gang of hostage-takers because he was a Muslim.

But speaking to AFP on condition of anonymity, he said he had doubted that he would ever emerge alive from the 11-hour ordeal which began at around 9pm on Friday night.

"They burst the restaurant firing their weapons and I could hear them shouting Allahu Akbar," he said. "They took me and two of my colleagues and forced us to sit on chairs, with our heads down on the table.

"They asked me whether I was a Muslim. As I said yes, they said they wouldn't harm or kill any Muslims. They will only kill the non-Muslims. All the time I prayed to Allah, keeping my head down. Several times I vomited.

"They warned us not to raise our heads but at one point I raised my head slightly and saw a bloodied body on the floor."

"I think the killing took place immediately after they entered the restaurant," said the employee. "We heard a lot of screaming and cries and firing in the first few minutes. After that there was a long pause. Around midnight we heard some fresh gunfire and then there was a lull."

"There was no electricity but I could still see some of our Bangladeshi guests sitting like us at another table. Everyone was silent. Late in the night, they asked us whether we were fasting as it's Ramadan. We said yes and they brought some food for us so we could eat before daybreak. I only managed to eat a little bit and drank some water.

"I saw them carrying guns and machetes all the time during the siege. They walked from one room to another. They never sat down. When they realised that troops might storm the building, they came to our room one last time and told us not to tarnish the name of Islam, be a good Muslim and uphold the pride of Islam.

"They said they had no intention of hurting us as we were Muslims. Then they left the room and we heard a lot of firing. A few minutes later, everything stopped. I raised my head and went to the bathroom. Then the troops came and brought us out. I never believed that I would see another day. Those hours were the longest in my life."

I won’t marginalise any part of the country- President Buhari says
